There are several options to reach Patong. Due to the high number of motorcycles and the tourist population, Phuket city is often congested. Therefore, we’ll discuss bus, taxi, and motorcycle options to help you choose wisely and safely.
By Public Bus
If you want to travel cheaply in a country where the currency is almost equivalent to Turkish lira, you need to travel like a local. Taking a bus from Old Town to Patong is one such option. You can reach Patong Beach by bus for just 40 THB per person. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes.
As you can see from the photo, it may not be the most comfortable option, but when you hear the taxi fare, you might consider it. Plus, we recommend trying it at least once for a different experience. 🙂
By Taxi
In Thailand, the concept of taxis is quite broad. Besides those marked as taxis, there are Grab or Bolt drivers who offer their private cars as taxis. If you choose to take a taxi to Patong, we recommend using these apps, as they are cheaper and often provide discounts. If you’re in a hurry and need to take a regular taxi, you can still check the fare on these apps and negotiate with the driver based on that price.
By Tuk Tuk
Tuk Tuks are a charming and cheap mode of transport you can find everywhere in Thailand. These small open-back trucks are quite fun to ride. While not the fastest option, they offer a unique experience for traveling between Old Town and Patong if you’re not in a rush.
By Motorbike
You can travel between Patong and Old Town by motorcycle taxis or by renting a motorcycle. However, you should be confident in your riding skills as traffic in Phuket can be chaotic, and few follow the rules. We didn’t use this option during our trip, so we can’t comment from experience, but we suggest trying motorcycle taxis via Grab for at least one ride. Don’t miss out on this experience if you’re in Phuket!
